Sorry to Bother You (2018)

Let me give you a time. You wanna make some money here? Use your white voice.

I’m going to be completely honest…it took me two starts to make it through this one. The first time was sometime last year and I made it 30 mins in but it was just too meta and weird for  me. Months later, I decided to try again…and I’m glad I did. It was much buzzed about last year so I knew I’d have to get to it eventually LOL.

Don’t get me wrong…its super meta and out there but it was really good. Written and directed by Boots Riley, the storyline is far out here but it has some pretty timely themes and issues that it tackles. The acting was great with an All-Star cast (at least in my book) with some serious actors on the come-up like LaKeith Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, Steven Yeun and Armie Hammer (who I absolutely loved in Call Me By Your Name). I’m also glad to see Danny Glover taking some pretty fun and out there roles (e.g. The Dead Don’t Die). There were definitely some pretty memorable scenes in this movie. Overall, this was a fun, thought-provoking work with a fresh perspective and voice. Currently streaming on Hulu.
