Quick Review: About Time (2013)

Some days you want to re-live forever…

A recent discovery and now one of my favorite rom-coms (I liked it so much that I went straight to Amazon to buy the DVD…who still buys DVDs?!?!…me, obviously, but what can I say, I’m a hopeless romantic and a sucker for a cute love story). This is also the film that really introduced me to Domhnall Gleeson…my current fave! He was so believable and sweet in this heartwarming film. Domhnall was prefect for this role as an awkward love interest who happens to have inherited a pretty nifty trick. Rachel McAdams (fun fact: this is the 2nd film where McAdams plays a time traveler’s wife…the 1st was literally, The Time Traveler’s Wife) is cute as a button…Bill Nighy is great as usual and sidekick Rory, played by character actor Joshua McGuire was great too (playing a character similar to that of his LoveSick character).

This is a story about living in the moment and really appreciating everyday we get to be with loved ones (and apparently it has a lot of Harry Potter references…in which Gleeson starred as Bill Weasley). But I should’ve known that this was one going to be a favorite because it was written and directed by Richard Curtis who also wrote and directed Love, Actually (another favorite) and wrote Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and the screenplays for the Bridget Jones’ movies. I don’t know what it is, but the British (well Curtis is actually from New Zealand…) are pretty good at this rom-com thing! If you’re looking for a cute love story that’ll make you laugh and cry and really want to approach life differently, I highly recommend this one! (Currently streaming on HBO Go)
