Quick Review: Annihilation (2018)

This mainly female-led cast (with the exception of Oscar Isaac and a few other minor characters) Sci-Fi thriller was a beautiful kaleidoscope of a brain scratcher directed by Alex Garland (who also directed Ex Machina…also starring Oscar Isaac by the way). It was nice seeing a film led by strong, smart females (Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriquez, Tuva Novotyny, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Sonoya Mizuno…also in Ex Machina). Jennifer Jason Leigh has been working real hard recently and popping up everywhere over the last couple of years.

This film had a lot of plot holes and things that were just illogical, but it was visually beautiful and mesmerizing. I read a review that said this “made Prometheus look rational” which I kind of agree with (because Prometheus was definitely out there lol). Overall, I think this film is hit or miss…either you’ll love it or hate it…and I think I’m in the former group lol. (Currently streaming on Amazon Prime)
