I hope that you read this before watching Netflix’s new Terry Crews and Ludacris vehicle “John Henry”…DON’T DO IT!!!
I repeat, DON’T WATCH THIS ONE SMH. This film was a mess…its not the tall-tale of John Henry that you might be used to (even though there were elements of the original folklore)…its utter foolishness…the dialogue is bonkers…and that final scene is just too outlandish (we’re bringing fake sledgehammers and torches to a gun fight in Compton?! Really?!…C’mon! but I get that it was trying to put forth an anti-gun violence message maybe, but it definitely falls flat). How are you not comfortable with guns but perfectly willing to smash people’s heads in with a sledgehammer…to me that’s just a little more violent lol. The music is too loud and the plot is just discombobulated. But if you still want to watch, feel free…to each their own.

On a side-note, Tribeca Enterprises + YouTube launched their “We Are One: A Global Film Festival” yesterday (May 29 – June 7) today! I am so stoked…I’ve been waiting for this ever since it was first announced. It’s lineup includes more than 100 films from 21 different film festivals including Cannes, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, San Sebastian International Film Festival, Sundance, TIFF, Tribeca and Venice Film Festival just to name a few. And there will be talks from some industry heavyweights. AND ITS ALL FREE! But audiences will be able to give donations to some really dope nonprofits (including UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, etc.) to help with COVID-19 relief efforts. So its like watching a movie for a good cause…its a win-win for everyone! So definitely check this out and be on the lookout for reviews from this (and the Vienna Shorts Film Festival) coming real soon! Checkout the lineup here.
