A beautifully shot story about an American Olympian and WWII POW. There are a lot of familiar faces (including my fave Domhnall Gleeson) in this inspirational story about courage, hope, determination and resiliency shown by Louis Zamperini (movingly played by Jack O’Connell) who refused to be broken by the vendictive Japanese General Watanabe (played creepily good by Japanese singer/actor Miyavi) or the war and life itself. Also starring Garrett Hedlund, Finn Wittrock and Jai Courtney, amongst others, there were great performances all around. Definitely a tearjerker, but it’ll leave you smiling in the end.
