I can’t seem to catch a break…I’ve been trying to catch “Minari” but it won’t let me be great — I’ve been hearing that Steven Yeun IS great in it and I want to see this — Glen has been my boy since Day 1!

What Went Down This Week…

  • Oscar Isaac is in talks to star in Marvel’s new “Moon Knight” for Disney+ — I like Oscar so I might check this one out…
  • Kenya Barris is set to direct MGM’s Richard Pryor biopic — Barris directed some episodes of #BlackAF and #Black-ish so this should be interesting — I got to interview Barris for AwardsCircuit and I had such a fun time talking to him — he’s quite the character…
  • Ava DuVernay‘s “Cherish the Day” scores a second season over at OWN — anybody watching…how is it?
  • Netflix has picked up the Idris Elba drama “Concrete Cowboy” — I caught this one at TIFF and it was kinda meh, but I’m glad it got picked up for distribution…
  • LeBron James‘ SpringHill Company and CNN Films are teaming up on “Dreamland: The Rise and Fall of Black Wall Street” — a look at the Tulsa race massacre which has been a pretty popular topic recently, but I’ll definitely be checking this out…
  • An official biopic of iconic blues musician B.B. King is going into to pre-production in 2021 — this production is different form the one starring Wendell Pierce which recently got the greenlight…
  • “Jurassic World: Dominion” has resumed filming…and I wish they hadn’t LOL
  • And apparently there’s going to be “The Meg 2”…which I also wish wasn’t a thing LOL
  • Jessica Chastain is replacing Michelle Williams in HBO’s “Scenes From a Marriage”
  • Executives are bouncing from Netflix left and right…what’s going on over there?!
  • Claire Foy & Benedict Cumberbatch are teaming up to adapt Charlotte McConaghy’s novel “Migrations”
Director/Executive Producer Ava DuVernay (center) on the set of SELMA, from Paramount Pictures, PathÈ, and Harpo Films. SEL-09411
  • Ava DuVernay is developing the first drama about an Indigenous family on network television (NBC), called “Sovereign” — hella dope!
  • Women Directors could make history at next years Oscar with so many worthy contenders from Radha Banks to Regina King to Chloé Zhao — and I can’t wait to see where the chips fall…
  • Michael B. Jordan and his Outlier Society will produce the DC movie “Static Shock”
  • “God Friended Me” alum Javicia Leslie is suiting up as “Batwoman”
I don’t own the rights to this photo, but whoever did this mashup, its pretty dope.
  • Netflix’s teen drama “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” comes to an end on New Year’s Eve with Season 4 — in the beginning, I thought that this show was going to be real stupid LOL, but it definitely grew on me and I’m a little sad to see it go…
  • Nicole Kidman is set to start in Amazon’s new drama series “Things I know to Be True”
  • Mindy Kaling will produce and star in HBO Max’s film adaptation of “Good in Bed”
  • “Ted Lasso” has scored a 3rd season over at Apple — I started watching the first few episodes and it was pretty fun..eventually I’ll get around to finishing it up…
  • Bebe Rexha (whom I love) is making her feature debut in Kristen Bell‘s comedy “Queenpins”
  • MGM has delayed the Aretha Franklin biopic “Respect” starring Jennifer Hudson 7 months — new release date Aug. 11, 2020
  • “Mudbound” co-writer Virgil Williams is set to adapt “Blacktop Wasteland” for Picturestart and John Legend’s Get Lifted — I was impressed with “Mudbound” so I’ll be interested in seeing this…
  • Uzo Aduba will start in “In Treatment” revival at HBO…
  • Joel Kinnaman will star as NFL player Jerry Smith in a new football and civil rights drama — I really liked Kinnaman “Hanna” so I may add this one to the watchlist…
  • Netflix has picked up John David Washington‘s (“Blackkklansman” & “Tenant” — which I still have yet to see 🤷🏽‍♀️) thriller “Born to Be Murdered”…
  • There’s a new live-action “Assassin’s Creed” series in the works over at Netflix…
  • Acorn TV has scooped up the rights to Mira Nair‘s “A Suitable Boy” — which I unfortunately missed at TIFF…
  • In sad news…Peacock has given “Brave New World” the axe after just one season — I weirdly enjoyed this one so I’m a little disappointed to see it go…I don’t know if its a reflection on the show or if Peacock just hasn’t quite gotten enough traction…
  • Basketball player Giannis Antetokounmpo a.k.a. “The Greek Freak” is getting a biopic over Disney+…
  • “Narcos: Mexico” is getting a 3rd season over at Netflix…unfortunately without Diego Luna — this show is so good…if you haven’t been watching, you should…and I’m a little sad to see Luna go…
  • Jennifer Lopez and Armie Hammer are set to star in the action-comedy “Shotgun Wedding” executive produced by Ryan Reynolds
  • In other news…Netflix is upping their price by $1…
  • Lil Yachty Dramedy series “Public Figures” is moving from Quibi (for obvious reasons) over to HBO Max…
  • Awkwafina and Sandra Oh are set to play sisters in a yet untitled Gloria Sanchez comedy at Netflix…
  • Father-daughter duo Ethan and Maya Hawke will co-star in the upcoming film “Revolver” about Beatlemania hitting Alaska in the 1960s…
