“Upload” (2020)

So going into this one, I had no idea what I was in for. Didn’t know what it was about…from the artwork I couldn’t tell if it was a comedy or a drama (should’ve known from the “who brought you The Office and Parks and Rec”). I pushed off watching this one, but I kept getting getting updates and alerts from Amazon, so I figured what the hell.

I’m glad I gave this one a watch. I binged it in one day. This was a cute little whodunit love story with lots of laughs. The characters were likable and the storyline was refreshingly different taking place in a slightly futuristic world where you can “upload” yourself to “Heaven” or Lake View in this case. But with all technology, digital Heaven has some technical difficulties…and it ain’t free.

The story revolves around a young man Nathan who meets his untimely demise much too soon. His rich, high sidity girlfriend tricks him into uploading himself to Lake View. While trying to adjust to his new circumstances, he meets a colorful cast of characters at the resort and his new “Angel” or customer service rep who’s back in the living world.

But things aren’t seeming to add up surrounding his death and the different parties embark on a journey to figure out what really happened. But don’t think this is all serious…this is a light-hearted comedy which makes it all the more enjoyable. Starring Robbie Amell (“The Tomorrow People” “Code 8”), Andy Allo (“Pitch Perfect 3”), Zainab Johnson (“American Koko”), Kevin Bigley (“The Angry Birds Movie”), Allegra Edwards (“Briarpatch” “Friends From College”) and others, “Upload” is perfectly cast, diverse, well-acted, fresh and interesting and all around fun. And its a quick watch…the time will breeze past. I highly recommend this one!
